ADR CATEGORIES WE CARRY -

 

CLASS 2 – GASES

2.1 – Flammable Gases

  • Examples: Propane, Butane, Aerosols
     
  • Risks: Fire, explosion in confined areas
     
  • Vehicles: Ventilated, properly secured cylinders
     

2.2 – Non-Flammable, Non-Toxic Gases

  • Examples: Nitrogen, Helium, CO₂
     
  • Risks: Asphyxiation in enclosed spaces
     

2.3 – Toxic Gases

  • Examples: Chlorine, Ammonia
     
  • Risks: Poisoning, severe respiratory harm
    (Usually requires high-level ADR)
     

CLASS 3 – FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS

  • Examples: Petrol, Diesel (limited), Methanol, Paints, Adhesives
     
  • Risks: Vapour ignition, fire spread
     
  • Packaging: Drums, IBCs, jerry cans, tankers
     
  • Key note: Many courier movements are limited quantity (LQ) compliant.
     

CLASS 4 – FLAMMABLE SOLIDS

4.1 – Flammable Solids

  • Examples: Matches, self-reactive substances, solid fuels
     
  • Risks: Easily ignited, strong burning
     

4.2 – Substances Liable to Spontaneous Combustion

  • Examples: Oily rags, phosphorus
     
  • Risks: Can ignite without an external heat source
     

4.3 – Substances Dangerous When Wet

  • Examples: Sodium, Potassium
     
  • Risks: React violently with water, producing flammable gas
     

CLASS 5 – OXIDISING SUBSTANCES & ORGANIC PEROXIDES

5.1 – Oxidising Agents

  • Examples: Ammonium nitrate, hydrogen peroxide solutions
     
  • Risks: Promote combustion, intensify fires
     

5.2 – Organic Peroxides

  • Examples: MEKP (fibreglass kit hardeners), industrial catalysts
     
  • Risks: Highly unstable, sensitive to heat/shock
     

CLASS 6 – TOXIC & INFECTIOUS SUBSTANCES

6.1 – Toxic Substances

  • Examples: Pesticides, cyanides, laboratory chemicals
     
  • Risks: Poisoning via inhalation, skin contact, or digestion
     

6.2 – Infectious Substances

  • Examples: Clinical waste, diagnostic specimens (Category A/B)
     
  • Risks: Spread of disease
    (Most small courier movements are Category B and exempted if packaged correctly.)
     

CLASS 8 – CORROSIVES

  • Examples: Acids, alkaline cleaners, battery acid, caustic soda
     
  • Risks: Severe skin burns, metal corrosion, fume release
     
  • Packaging: IBCs, drums, UN-approved containers
     

CLASS 9 – MISCELLANEOUS DANGEROUS SUBSTANCES

  • Examples:
     
    • Lithium batteries (loose or equipment-packed)
       
    • Environmentally hazardous substances
       
    • Dry ice
       
    • Magnetised materials
       
  • Risks: Fire (lithium), environmental harm, movement hazards
